Save Money by Switching to LCD Monitors
Computer equipment is expensive, but most people don't even think about the costs it takes to run an entire office worth of tech. Modern hardware is becoming more and more energy efficient, but older equipment can take a lot of electricity to run (not to mention the maintenance of keeping things running smoothly. One of the biggest energy hogs in an office these days are old CRT monitors.
If you still have workstations with big, bulky CRT monitors, you are spending a lot more on electricity to run them than you have to. These monitors produce heat, and use anywhere from 90 to 110 watts for a standard 19 inch display, while low-cost LCD screens these days use 20-30 watts (an incandescent bulb typically uses 23 watts). If these devices are on 24/7, the cost savings can be anywhere from $30 to $50 per year per display. This means the purchase of new LCD screens would pay for itself in energy savings in 2-3 years in some conditions. You can go green and cut long-term costs. While you are at it, you can also save even more electricity by having monitors go on standby after a length of inactivity by setting up the power management features on your computers. This can extend the life of the screen and reduce the power it consumes while nobody is using it. Want to learn more about reducing overhead for your entire IT infrastructure?
